Vodafone D2 is a mobile telephone company, operating in Germany. It is a non-listed, wholly owned subsidiary of Vodafone Plc (which is based in the United Kingdom).

The company resulted from the 2000 takeover by Vodafone of the German operator Mannesmann Mobilfunk GmbH. D2-Netz, the company's primary asset, was the second digital (GSM) network licensed in Germany. It was rebranded in 2002 to Vodafone D2.

The Song "We are the people" from Empire of the sun in TV advertising campaing 2010 / 2011 became very popular in Germany (song charts).[1]

Currently, the Vodafone D2 network serves both prepaid and postpaid customers on GSM and UMTS (with HSDPA). In december 2010 Vodafone startet with LTE (Long Term Evolution) as the first German operator.[2]

In February 2011 Vodafone Germany started with IPTV[3] via DSL and VDSL connection. In April 2011 Vodafone Germany started to contribute a lot of Disney content via IPTV.[4]

At the end of 2010 Vodafone had 36,676 million customers with mobile phone or mobile internet contract and 3,945 million customers with a DSL / VDSL connection,[5] a very high market share, making it the largest operator in the country.

Following T-Mobile, Vodafone Germany starts pre-registration for the Apple iPhone 4s by September 12, 2011.[6]
